You dont NEED two sticks like a lot of people are saying. Up/Down and Left/Right controls for the camera, flight stick games usually have lock on targeting, because you just have to keep your machine facing the enemy to hit these problems arent that big a deal, also enemies often are lumbering or limited in their ability to rapidly change directions and speeds (jets bank, not instant-180 and thrust in the opposite direction, it's actually a somewhat slow motion)Īlso youll destroy your wrists with the strain of the constant rapid direction changes.įorward/Backward controls and Left/Right controls for movement. Most of the skills are a "press one button" kinda thing, theres only 2 real skills on a lot of suits (excluding "alt-fire skills), the thrust lever has no real map-able use in this game because you want to be tapping or holding your thrusters at a moment's notice, having to shift would add considerable delay and lead to more sprinting instead of dashing.Īnd finally the biggest killer: flight stick would be way less accurate when aiming than mouse and even when compared to a controller, youd have much slower response times even if you ramped up the turn speed and sensitivity of the stick's axis, simply based on how many more fractions of a second more it takes to rotate your wrist vs your thumbs, and ramping it up like crazy would also mean when you are in an intense fight you are going to be way more likely to over do it and aim way past where the enemy stops moving in a single direction. The real problem, as I see it, is actually that there's NOT ENOUGH game inputs to require a flight stick and those that exist wouldnt map well. Flight sticks have a dpad and analogue stick at the top, they can handle multiple directional inputs.
